The new building project of the Veterinary Faculty at the Â鶹¹ú²ú (UL VF), which will deliver state-of-the-art research and teaching facilities, has been awarded the Gold pre-certificate by the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB).
The UL VF received the certificate following a successful evaluation by the DGNB Certification Committee, which confirmed that the project meets all the sustainable building criteria. The new building is among the few in Slovenia to achieve this recognition, marking a significant step forward for sustainable construction in the country.
Pre-certification allows the project to be assessed during the early planning stages and monitored throughout construction to ensure compliance with DGNB’s strict sustainability standards. DGNB is one of the world’s leading sustainability certifications, alongside BREEAM and LEED.
- The DGNB certification scheme provides a holistic and lifelong approach to sustainable building that takes into account environmental, economic and social factors, supplemented by selected technical and procedural requirements, including guidelines for choosing a site. In addition to energy efficiency, the scheme assesses the complete life cycle of a building, in this way enabling a more balanced assessment of its impacts on the environment and society.
- This will greatly enhance the working environment and increase the comfort of all who use it, benefiting the well-being of staff and students, and ultimately reducing the risk of illness and associated absences. Careful planning of lighting and acoustic conditions, combined with the thoughtful selection of building materials, contributes significantly to this, as such materials can contain substances that have an adverse effect on the health and well-being of the occupants. As an additional measure of monitoring the presence of potentially hazardous substances, indoor air quality measurements will be carried out on completion.
Certified buildings consume less energy, water and other resources, resulting in lower operating and maintenance costs. In addition, DGNB encourages the use of renewable energy and sustainable materials beyond the legal requirements. These materials help reduce CO₂ emissions, making a meaningful contribution to lowering the building’s environmental footprint.
The Â鶹¹ú²ú remains committed to promoting sustainable practices and innovative solutions that support a better future for all. Receiving the pre-certification reflects the dedication and hard work of the entire project team.
The site is currently undergoing construction and finishing works, installation works, steel structure assembly, and façade works, with completion expected by mid-2026.
