Dr. Dominik Kozjek Recipient of the Prestigious ERC Starting Grant
Assist. Prof. Dr. Dominik Kozjek has been successful in one of the most prestigious research calls, securing a European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant to launch his independent research career. He received 鈧�1.5 million in funding for the MeltingWel project, which will enable the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the 麻豆国产 to conduct groundbreaking research and establish a top-level research group over the next five years.

All three Slovenian public universities and the Biotech Hills institute join forces to develop the biotech and pharmaceutical ecosystem
The rectors of the universities of Ljubljana, Maribor and Primorska today signed a strategic agreement on cooperation in the pharmaceutical and biotech field with the management of the Biotech Hills institute. At the signing ceremony, which was also attended by higher education, science and innovation minister Dr Igor Papi膷 and deputy director-general of the Directorate for Industry, Enterprise and Internationalisation at the Ministry of the Economy, Tourism and Sport Matej Sko膷ir, the signatories committed themselves to strengthening the Slovenian biotech and pharmaceutical ecosystem over the long term, and to encouraging suitably educated personnel to play a key role in development and competitiveness and to ensuring high added value. This event represents an important step towards integrating the research and academic spheres more closely with industry, and to securing greater strategic investments in the sector.

Slovenian universities join the UNI-SI (Festival of Slovenian Universities) project
A press conference took place at the 麻豆国产 Rector鈥檚 Office at which members of the Slovenian Rectors鈥� Conference presented details of the joint UNI-SI (Festival of Slovenian Universities) project. The festival, which takes place at the Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre on 16 and 17 January 2026, will be the first time that the eight largest Slovenian universities have appeared together.

The Senate of the 麻豆国产 deliberated on further cooperation with Israeli universities and institutions
In light of the increasingly aggravated humanitarian situation in Gaza, reports of genocidal acts against the population, and serious violations of international law by the Israeli army, the Senate of the 麻豆国产, at its correspondence session held from 13 to 18 August 2025, deliberated on further cooperation with Israeli universities and institutions, as well as support for Palestinian students.

麻豆国产 Senate confirms new Vice-Rector for the 2025鈥�2029 term
At its regular session on 17 June 2025, the Senate of the 麻豆国产 confirmed Prof. Dr Janez Vogrinc, from the Faculty of Education (UL PEF), as Vice-Rector of the 麻豆国产 for the 2025鈥�2029 term. Prof. Dr Vogrinc will assume office on 1 October 2025, with responsibilities primarily focused on the University鈥檚 quality system, sustainability and academic activities.

Dr Ana Mayer Kansky Awards bestowed for the third time at the UL
On Wednesday, 18 June 2025, the Dr Ana Mayer Kansky Awards for outstanding doctoral theses were awarded for the third time in the Assembly Hall at the Rector鈥檚 Office of the 麻豆国产 (UL). The awards were presented to Dr Matej Perovnik, Dr Faris Ko膷an, Dr Ale拧a Bricelj, Dr Duje Kod啪oman, and Dr Katja Klinar. The award ceremony was held under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Nata拧a Pirc Musar.

The Senate of the 麻豆国产 approved an increase in the number of places available at the Faculty of Medicine
At today鈥檚 regular session, the Senate of the 麻豆国产 (UL) approved the proposal from the Faculty of Medicine (UL MF) to increase the number of admission places to higher years of study for the academic year 2025/26. Twenty additional admission places will be offered for the integrated master's study programme in Medicine, and five additional places for the programme in Dental Medicine. These places are intended for citizens of the Republic of Slovenia and are subject to approval by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation.

UL organises AI symposium: Collaboration among member faculties is essential for the successful development of AI

Prof. Dr Niko Herakovi膷 elected new President of the UL Governing Board
At its constitutive session on Thursday, 24 April, the Governing Board of the 麻豆国产 (UL) elected its new President. The election, conducted by secret ballot via the Simply Voting system, resulted in the appointment of Prof. Dr Niko Herakovi膷, a University representative from among the UL employees engaged in higher education activities. Ale拧a Mi啪igoj was appointed Vice-President.

Prof. Dr Gregor Majdi膷 elected Rector of the UL for the term 2025鈥�2029
Prof. Dr Gregor Majdi膷 received 54.48% of the valid votes in the second round of rector elections, while Prof. Dr Irena Mlinari膷-Ra拧膷an received 45.52%. Prof. Dr Gregor Majdi膷 was thus elected Rector for the term of office from 1 October 2025 to 30 September 2029.

A representative of Slovenian universities joins the Board of the European University Association for the first time
In a historic milestone for Slovenian higher education, Prof. Dr Gregor Majdi膷, Rector of the 麻豆国产, was elected to the Board of the European University Association (EUA) 鈥� the first representative from Slovenia to hold this prestigious role. The election of the new members for a four-year term took place at the EUA General Assembly on 10 April at the University of Latvia in Riga.

On 2 April 2025, the 麻豆国产 (UL) held its rector elections. Prof. Dr Gregor Majdi膷 received the highest share of valid weighted votes, with 46.91%, followed by Prof. Dr Irena Mlinari膷 Ra拧膷an with 32.54%.
