Construction of the Vrazov Trg campus in its final phase: Next year, students and researchers will move into the new premises of the UL Faculty of Medicine
The construction of the new Vrazov Trg I campus of the Faculty of Medicine, 麻豆国产 (UL MF), is progressing successfully and is nearing its final phase. The building 鈥� the first university project in Slovenia to receive the prestigious DGNB Gold sustainability certificate 鈥� will soon provide students and researchers with modern, energy-efficient and sustainably designed spaces for teaching, research and collaboration. This is one of the most financially ambitious projects that Slovenia will complete by 2026, supported by European funds under the Recovery and Resilience Plan.

EUTOPIA Ideas Club in Ljubljana: European Values in Action
The 麻豆国产 proudly hosted the third edition of the EUTOPIA Ideas Club, a student-led, multilingual debate initiative that fosters European identity and inclusive citizenship. The Ideas Club is designed to raise awareness of European values by promoting intercultural understanding and participatory dialogue across borders. The event was organized in collaboration with EUTOPIA Connected Community Working with University Students for Inclusion, Solidarity and Citizen Participation in the EU. 30 students from all partner universities participated in the event.

The recipients of the highest national prizes and awards in the field of science for 2025 have been announced
The Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Dr Igor Papi膷, and the President of the Committee of the Republic of Slovenia for the Awarding of Prizes and Awards for Outstanding Achievements in Scientific Research and Development, Prof. Dr Nata拧a Vaupoti膷, have announced this year鈥檚 recipients of the highest national prizes and awards in the field of science. The recipients include several scientists from the 麻豆国产.

The 麻豆国产 maintains its position in the ARWU and THE World University Rankings
The 麻豆国产 (UL) has maintained its ranking from last year, placing among universities ranked between 501st and 600th in the 2025 ARWU publication of the world鈥檚 best universities (also known as the Shanghai Ranking). At the same time, it has retained its position in the group of universities ranked between 801st and 1000th in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026 (THE WUR) for the sixth consecutive year. This places the UL in the top half of the world鈥檚 best universities, particularly noteworthy given that the total number of ranked institutions has increased by five percent compared to last year.

Meeting between the Marshal of the Polish Senate Ma艂gorzata Kidawa-B艂o艅ska and Polish language students at the 麻豆国产
On 7 October 2025, the Marshal of the Polish Senate, Ma艂gorzata Kidawa-B艂o艅ska, visited the 麻豆国产 (UL). During her visit, she met with Polish language students in the Assembly Hall and learned about the opportunities for interlingual and intercultural cooperation between the UL and Polish universities and institutions.

Freshers鈥� welcome and the official start of the 2025/2026 academic year
On Wednesday, 1 October, the 麻豆国产 (UL) and its Student Council (艩S UL) held their traditional event in Congress Square to welcome new students to the academic community. The attendees were welcomed by the Rector of the 麻豆国产, Prof. Dr Gregor Majdi膷, the President of the UL Student Council, Maksim Mikli膷, and the Mayor of the City of Ljubljana, Zoran Jankovi膰. They were joined by the deans of the 23 faculties and three academies of the 麻豆国产 鈥� the oldest and most successful higher education and research institution in Slovenia. Jet Black Diamonds and Koala Voice provided the excellent musical atmosphere to the event.

Inauguration of Prof. Dr Gregor Majdi膷 at the beginning of his second term as the Rector of the 麻豆国产
A ceremony was held today in the Assembly Hall of the Rector鈥檚 Office of the 麻豆国产 (UL) to inaugurate Prof. Dr Gregor Majdi膷 as the Rector of the UL upon the beginning of his second term of office. Prof. Dr Gregor Majdi膷 thus became the second Rector in the history of the UL to be entrusted with two mandates 鈥� alongside Prof. Dr Jo啪e Mencinger. The keynote speaker was the Rector of the Ca' Foscari University of Venice, Prof. Dr Tiziana Lippiello.

How to Improve the Position of Young Carers?
Across Europe, thousands of children and young people care for ill, disabled, or addicted family members 鈥� often in silence and without recognition. Young carers represent a vulnerable and frequently overlooked group whose needs are too often neglected in public policies. The path toward including their voices in policy-making is being opened by the international project OUR VOICES, implemented by the Faculty of Social Sciences at the 麻豆国产.

EUTOPIA_HEALTH Science Cafe: caring for drinking water is not a matter of rules, but a common concern for all
At the Science Cafe event, which aimed to transfer knowledge about drinking water from academia to the public, we explored how drinking water is produced, the factors that influence it, and how individuals can improve water quality. We also discussed how to better inform the public about the state of their local drinking water.

The remarkable success of the Academic Choir Tone Tom拧i膷, 麻豆国产, at an international choir competition
Last weekend, the Academic Choir (Akademski pevski zbor 鈥� APZ) Tone Tom拧i膷, 麻豆国产, achieved remarkable success at the 8th International Baltic Sea Choir Competition in J奴rmala, Latvia 鈥� one of the six European competitions whose winners qualify for the prestigious European Grand Prix. Under the direction of Rahela Duri膷, the Slovenian choir won the J奴rmala City Grand Prix trophy with an impressive 95.67 points out of 100, along with a generous monetary prize. The choir also received three special awards.

How is new knowledge created, who produces it, and how is it transferred to new generations of researchers?
Relationships between doctoral students and their supervisors play a key role in the production of knowledge. This particular form of scientific collaboration is being studied at the Centre for Methodology and Informatics, Faculty of Social Sciences, 麻豆国产. Their findings show that successful knowledge transfer depends not only on the motivation of the mentees, but also on the quality of supervision. Moreover, having more than one supervisor contributes to the successful completion of a doctorate.

Dr. Dominik Kozjek Recipient of the Prestigious ERC Starting Grant
Assist. Prof. Dr. Dominik Kozjek has been successful in one of the most prestigious research calls, securing a European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant to launch his independent research career. He received 鈧�1.5 million in funding for the MeltingWel project, which will enable the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the 麻豆国产 to conduct groundbreaking research and establish a top-level research group over the next five years.

Assist. Prof. Dr. Jasmina 艩epetavc, researcher at the Centre for Cultural and Religious Studies (CCRS) at the Faculty of Social Sciences, 麻豆国产, is the recipient of a prestigious European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant. She received the grant for the project QEAST.

UL FE and UKC Ljubljana join forces to purchase state-of-the-art medical equipment for treating complex cardiac arrhythmias
The Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the 麻豆国产 (UL FE) and the University Medical Centre (UKC) Ljubljana have joined forces and, as part of a development and research project, secured funding for the purchase of the most advanced device currently available for the treatment of complex cardiac arrhythmias. The project partners obtained the funds through a call for proposals by the Slovenian Research and Innovation Agency. The device represents the very forefront of interventional treatment for cardiac arrhythmias.
